How to promote a new websiteBuilding a new website marks a significant milestone for small business owners, bloggers, content writers, SEO professionals, and website designers.

However, the real challenge lies beyond the launch. Nowadays, to grab your audience’s attention, you need to promote a new website so users can find it.

In this article, we will review proven methods for promoting your new website and provide key takeaways on how to proceed with each strategy.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization is needed for successful search engine visibility for your website. By optimizing your new website with targeted keywords and phrases, you will help promote quality backlinks.

Plus, well-written and optimized content will help your site attract organic traffic and climb the page ranks with search engines.

There are two key areas relating to SEO. You have “On-Page” and “Off-Page” optimizations.

Here is a summary of what you need to consider to optimize for each.

On-Page SEO

On-page SEO is the optimization of the content on your website. This optimization helps boost your search engine ranking. These efforts include creating high-quality, relevant, authoritative content with primary and secondary keywords and phrases integrated naturally within your content. Long gone are the days of “Keyword Stuffing” to rank better.

Also, it is important to add relevant title tags and meta descriptions. These meta tags help search engines clearly understand your page or post content and rank your pages correctly. If a page or post title and description are unrelated to the content, visitors will quickly click away to find the correct information elsewhere.

Furthermore, enhancing images with alt text will ensure user-friendly navigation. Plus, boosting page loading speeds is also a key on-page factor. A fast-loading website can significantly impact your search engine ranking and user experience.

Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO involves steps you should take in addition to your website content to help improve your ranking within search engine results.

The most important off-page SEO technique is backlink building. This SEO effort is necessary for building your website ranking. Acquiring reputable and relevant backlinks from other sites to your own will be seen by search engines as an endorsement of your content. This task is time-consuming but is a key component to achieving SEO success.

Other SEO tactics include social media marketing, guest blogging on authoritative sites (part of the link-building strategy we just mentioned), and getting listed in directories.

By increasing your online presence through valuable content and strategic collaborations in addition to your website, you can boost your site’s authority to attract more visitor traffic.

I applied these best practices for one of my Realtor clients, whose website was a “Hot Mess.” We expanded their local exposure through blog articles relevant to her niche, which resulted in a 45% increase in website traffic within six months.

There are no shortcuts to ranking in search results. So, take those “Follow This Trick” SEO videos you’ll find all over YouTube with a grain of salt!

With that said, seeing progress within six (6) months requires dedication and effort, but if you stick with it and follow SEO’s best practices, you can get there.

Promote a New Website With Social Media

Social media is where most people hang out, and it is a great place to promote your new website. Top social media platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram are the best places to start engaging with potential visitors while promoting your website.

Before diving into social media, it’s important to know your audience so you attract the visitors you’re looking for.

Here are five (5) of the top social sites you should consider engaging with if their audience fits your visitor profile:

  • Facebook: An excellent choice for engaging with potential customers as they have many users. You can utilize their advertising platform to engage with users and local groups and share what your website offers.
  • X (formerly Twitter): Provides excellent direct-to-consumer exposure. Build a following by engaging in the conversation. Quickly share links to your helpful website content and build a user following.
  • Instagram: A place to share visually engaging content to attract the younger adults that comprise most of this social media’s users.
  • Reddit: If you think this forum is a good fit for your website, you should consider becoming involved in subreddits relevant to your website. It will take time to build a reputation before you can successfully showcase your website on Reddit. But, once you have a trusted reputation, many will happily share your website links.
  • LinkedIn: This platform is mainly a business social media outlet. It’s a great place to engage with others of similar experience and business interests. You will find many topic-specific groups with similar interests you can follow and interact with.

Do you have a budget to promote your website? If so, consider advertising through Facebook Ads. Using their Ad Tools, you can reach a large targeted base of members likely interested in your website’s information, products, or services.

If you have an e-commerce website, consider opening a Facebook and Instagram shop. They are both free and just another way to promote product sales and traffic to your website.

Google My Business

Local businesses need to make their presence felt where it matters most – in the local search results.

Google My Business is a must-have for any website that promotes products and services within their local area.

It’s easy to create a Google My Business profile. It’s free and will enhance your website visibility in location-based searches. As I mentioned before, I manage a website for several local Realtors. Once we created a Google Business profile and linked it to their website, we saw a significant increase in visitors coming from their Google profile page.

One nice feature with Google My Business is that you can monitor what users click on in your profile and get a monthly email summarizing all these activities. This information allows you to make adjustments as needed to enhance your visibility.

Guest Blogging to Promote a New Website

Guest blogging provides an opportunity to reach wider audiences through established industry websites.

By guest blogging for another website, you will begin an effective strategy for building backlinks to your website. As we mentioned before, this is one of several backlink-building strategies, but it is worth the effort if you have the time and resources to do it.

When you write guest posts for authoritative blogs in your industry, you will demonstrate your expertise in your field, which not only does search engines like Google require but will also help attract more visitors to your site.

Starting out as a guest blogger can be challenging, and it’s not uncommon for your initial offers to be ignored or rejected. But remember, persistence is key. Stay determined, and you’ll soon start seeing the fruits of your efforts.

Guest blogging isn’t just about SEO benefits. It’s a powerful tool for building relationships, fostering trust with publishers and audiences alike. These connections are invaluable, and they can be the key to your success as a guest blogger.

By developing a consistent contribution schedule, you will drive traffic to your website and expand your professional network.

I have a client with a niche e-commerce store. They saw an increase in visitor traffic by offering to write guest posts on topics related to their business and that site. Since their products target specific customers the hosting site didn’t offer but was relevant to, their request to guest post was well received.

Content Marketing

Is content “Really” king? If you’ve been searching online for advice on how to rank better. You have likely come across the old “Content is King” argument regarding having a successful website.

While having quality content is important. It used to be more complex than it is. Gone are the days when anyone could write an article that checked all the search term boxes and got ranked.

Nowadays, your content needs to check additional boxes, such as how helpful it is and whether it reflects a level of experience and expertise. These are trust factors that Google expects to see in your content.

Plus, content isn’t limited to writing blog posts. Videos, podcasts, and online publications such as How-to guides also count as content.

There are many options for optimizing content for SEO. If you have the budget and the return on your investment is proven, consider hiring an SEO firm. Use caution when choosing and insist on seeing actual results from other clients. There are many SEO service providers out there, and the reputable ones will be fine providing proven and verifiable results.

Alternatively, you can consider subscribing to one or more of the many SEO optimization tools available today. Tools like AHREFS, MOZ, Surfer SEO, and others will get you started with your DIY SEO efforts.

There are also many helpful free SEO resources, such as Answer The Public. At this site, you enter a keyword or phrase, and AnswerThePublic will provide all the different questions and statements visitors have searched for with search engines like Google. Also, consider Answer Socrates as an alternative for keyword and phrase ideas.

Another free helpful tool is Google Trends. This online tool lets you compare search terms to see which are most active and where in the US they are originating.

So, the days of simply writing to satisfy specific keywords and phrases are gone. Today’s content must be well-written, engage visitors, and answer the questions they’re searching for. If you can do this, you’re on the path to success!

Online Community Forums

Forums can be a gold mine for targeted traffic if handled professionally. Sites like Reddit, which we mentioned before, have a massive following, with subreddits focusing on specific topics of interest for members.

Along with Reddit, thousands of other forums might be a good fit to promote your website. Just understand that almost all these discussion groups are moderated, meaning you can’t just join and start spamming links to your site. Plus, spamming forums and public discussion threads is bad for your reputation and will do more harm than good.

Also, many forums do not allow direct links, so please do your research on any communities you’re considering joining. Always read and abide by the posted rules and be professional. Doing so will go a long way to building and earning a good reputation online.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising

PPC can offer quick wins in terms of visibility and conversions.

Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising offers a budget-friendly method to boost your website’s visibility. While considered a conventional approach in digital marketing, PPC remains popular due to its effectiveness in driving website traffic and targeting specific audiences.

While Bing Ads supports PPC, Google AdWords is the preferred PPC campaign tool. Through AdWords, you can easily create ads and bid on keywords and phrases. Your ad is prominently displayed in search results if your bid is high enough. And you’re only charged if someone clicks your ad to open the link you set to your website.

The bidding process on Google AdWords involves an auction process, where the advertiser offering a higher cost-per-click will usually secure the top placement. However, additional factors like keyword relevance, click-through rate (CTR), and ad performance will also influence ad positioning in search results.

To keep expenses in check, you can set budget limits on Google AdWords to prevent overspending. Once this limit is reached, your ads will be paused until the next day. You can play around with limits and bid amounts until you find the right balance within your budget.

For small businesses looking to promote their business website, Google AdWords will prove to be a worthwhile investment.

I use Bing and Google PPC advertising for all my new websites. Also, I don’t go after the top keywords or phrases but rather the most affordable long-tail phrases that may cost 5-10 cents per click but put my website in front of potential visitors’ eyes.

I look at it this way: if someone visits my website and finds the answer they were looking for, they’ll bookmark my site and return later to see if I have any helpful new posts.

Use Email Campaigns

Personalized email marketing remains an effective tool for maintaining customer relationships.

Targeted Email campaigns help you stay in touch with current users and reach out to new users interested in your website.

Your email campaign should be very targeted to get the best response. For example, if you sell cat supplies, you wouldn’t send out a campaign that might also interest dog owners. Because of this, your email lists need to be correctly categorized based on the information you used to obtain them.

A targeted approach is essential, leading to higher engagement rates and encouraging repeat website visits.

Also, creating regular newsletters to distribute keeps your visitors informed about your website’s latest content, promotions, or updates.

Be sure to include strong calls to action within these emails to drive visitor traffic to your website.

Monitor your results with the right analytics tools that track email opens, click-through rates, and conversions so you know what’s working.

Promotional Giveaways

Everybody loves free stuff! Offering a product or service giveaway is a great way to engage visitors and promote your new website.

Giveaways are a simple tactic for driving traffic. However, it’s important to remember that marketing tactics should deliver a positive return on investment.

Be sure to clearly define the rules and ensure the giveaway item is of interest to your target audience.

While we said everyone loves free stuff, nothing is truly free. Set some giveaway entry requirements, so you have something to show for your giveaway.

Consider entry requirements such as liking or following a social media page or subscribing to an email newsletter. Also, consider entrants visit a designated landing page on your website. All of these are cost-effective giveaway entry requirements that drive traffic.

To promote a new website, you can focus your giveaway on any one or more of these specific goals. By making your website the central hub for giveaway participants, you will increase website traffic and hope to retain return visitors.

So you’re likely asking, how do I enforce these giveaway requirements? I’m glad you asked.

Several third-party services can help promote and verify that eligibility conditions are met. A very popular one used by many social media influencers is Gleam.io.

Lastly, once you announce the giveaway, be ready for a surge in new followers. The hope is that they will become regular visitors to your website, so keep them engaged with helpful content.
